Job summary

Building Careers UK seeks an Assistant Quantity Surveyor for roofing, cladding and building envelope projects in Wigan. You will assist with commercial management, subcontractor enquiries, procurement, payments, valuations, variations, and cost reporting.

Qualifications

• Experience as Assistant Quantity Surveyor or Trainee Quantity Surveyor in construction.
• Experience in roofing, cladding, building envelope or related subcontracting is advantageous.
• QS/Commercial Management qualification or working towards one.
• Strong numerical, analytical and commercial skills.
• Excellent communication and organisational abilities.
• Full UK Driving Licence.

Responsibilities

• Assist with commercial management of roofing, cladding and envelope projects.
• Support subcontractor enquiries, procurement and contract administration.
• Assist with applications for payment, valuations, variations and final accounts.
• Produce quantity take-offs and assist with cost reporting and CVRs.
• Monitor project costs and support budget management.
• Collaborate with Senior QS and Project Managers throughout the project lifecycle.
• Build relationships with clients, suppliers and subcontractors.
• Identify commercial risks and value engineering opportunities.
• Maintain commercial documentation and project records.
• Support project handovers from pre-construction to completion.

Due to continued growth, they are now looking to recruit an ambitious Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join their commercial team in Wigan.

The Role

As Assistant Quantity Surveyor, you will be responsible for:

• Assisting with the commercial management of roofing, cladding, and fa ade projects
• Supporting the preparation of subcontractor enquiries, procurement, and contract administration
• Assisting with applications for payment, valuations, variations, and final accounts
• Producing quantity take-offs and assisting with cost reporting and CVRs
• Monitoring project costs and supporting budget management
• Working closely with Senior Quantity Surveyors and Project Managers throughout the project lifecycle
• Building strong relationships with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors
• Assisting with identifying commercial risks and value engineering opportunities
• Maintaining accurate commercial documentation and project records
• Supporting successful project handovers from pre-construction through to completion

The Ideal Candidate

The successful Assistant Quantity Surveyor will have:

• Previous experience in an Assistant Quantity Surveyor or Trainee Quantity Surveyor role within construction
• Experience within roofing, cladding, fa ades, building envelope, or specialist subcontracting would be highly advantageous
• A Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management qualification (or currently working towards one)
• Strong numerical, analytical, and commercial skills
• Excellent communication and organisational abilities
• Good knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office
• A proactive attitude with a willingness to learn and develop
• Full UK Driving Licence
