Job summary

Confidential is seeking a Junior Quantity Surveyor / Assistant QS to support the commercial management of construction projects. This entry‑level role offers training and practical exposure for recent graduates or students with an interest in quantity surveying.

You will work with the Project Manager and delivery team to manage estimates, supplier pricing, budgets, variations, and cost tracking on live projects, with development toward senior QS roles.

Job Title: Junior Quantity Surveyor / Assistant QS

About the Role

We are building a new project team and are looking for a Junior Quantity Surveyor or Assistant QS to support the commercial and financial management of construction projects.

This role is suitable for someone at the beginning of their career, including recent graduates, construction-related students, or candidates with a strong interest in quantity surveying and project costs. You do not need to be a seasoned professional; training, guidance, and practical exposure will be provided.

You will work alongside the Project Manager and wider delivery team to help manage estimates, quotations, supplier pricing, project budgets, variations, and cost tracking across live construction projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with preparing cost estimates, budgets, and project cost plans.
• Request, compare, and analyse quotations from subcontractors, suppliers, and service providers.
• Support the preparation of client quotations, scopes of work, tender documents, and procurement packages.
• Help measure works from drawings, site information, specifications, and project documentation.
• Track project spending against agreed budgets and report cost movements.
• Assist with identifying and recording variations, additional works, and potential cost risks.
• Maintain organised records of quotes, invoices, purchase orders, contracts, and commercial documents.
• Support the preparation of payment applications, valuation information, and final account documentation.
• Attend site visits and project meetings where required.
• Work closely with the Project Manager to ensure commercial information supports project delivery.
• Learn and follow company processes for cost control, procurement, reporting, and supplier management.

What We’re Looking For

• Interest in construction, quantity surveying, estimating, commercial management, or property development.
• A degree, diploma, apprenticeship, or current study in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field is beneficial, but not essential.
• Strong numeracy skills and attention to detail.
• Good Excel skills or willingness to learn Excel quickly.
• Ability to organise documents, manage data, and work methodically.
• Comfortable learning from drawings, specifications, schedules, and project information.
• Good communication skills and confidence dealing with suppliers, contractors, and internal teams.
• A proactive attitude and willingness to ask questions, learn, and take ownership of tasks.
• Previous experience in construction, estimating, administration, procurement, or accounts is useful but not required.
