Job summary

Cardo Group is seeking an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join our North West London team. You will support cost control, procurement, and commercial reporting for social housing projects, including planned maintenance and refurbishment.

The role involves assisting with cost estimates, budgets, tender documentation, and subcontract administration while ensuring compliance with regulations and client requirements. A relevant qualification and strong numerical skills are essential.

Qualifications

  • BSc Quantity Surveying or an HNC/HND in Construction is expected.
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills are essential.
  • Experience with cost management software and IT systems is advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in preparing cost estimates, budgets, and cashflow forecasts.
  • Support monitoring and reporting of project costs against budgets.
  • Help maintain cost databases and benchmark information for future projects.
  • Prepare and assist in monthly commercial reports and financial summaries.
  • Assist in preparing tender documentation for labour, materials and subcontract packages.
  • Help evaluate subcontractor quotations for price accuracy and compliance.
  • Support procurement of subcontractors and suppliers in line with policies.
  • Participate in tender analyses and negotiations.
  • Assist with administering JCT, NEC, or bespoke social housing contracts.
  • Help prepare subcontract orders and variations.
  • Assist with variations/changes and record-keeping.
  • Support payment applications and certificates, and monthly valuations.
  • Assist with interim and final payments processing.
  • Verify completed works and take-offs on-site; attend site visits and progress meetings.
  • Ensure work aligns with social housing regulations and safety standards.
  • Support quality control and audit documentation.
  • Assist with risk registers, early warnings, and change control.
  • Collaborate with project managers, site and design teams, and subcontractors.
  • Maintain communication with clients, housing associations, and local authorities.

Role Overview:

We are currently recruiting for an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join our team in located in the North West London area.

The Assistant Quantity Surveyor will support the commercial team in delivering cost-effective, compliant, and high-quality social housing projects, including planned maintenance, refurbishment, new-build developments, and responsive repairs. The role involves assisting with cost control, contract administration, procurement, valuations, and financial reporting to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget while meeting regulatory and client requirements.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in preparing cost estimates, budgets, and cashflow forecasts.
  • Support the monitoring and reporting of project costs against budgets.
  • Help maintain cost databases and benchmark information for future projects.
  • Prepare and assist in monthly commercial reports, CVRs (Cost Value Reconciliations), and financial summaries.
  • Assist in preparing tender documentation for labour, materials, and subcontract packages.
  • Help evaluate subcontractor quotations, ensuring price accuracy and compliance.
  • Support procurement of subcontractors and suppliers in line with the company’s procurement policies.
  • Participate in tender analysis and negotiation processes.
  • Support senior QS staff with administering JCT, NEC, or bespoke social housing contracts.
  • Help prepare and issue subcontract orders and variations.
  • Assist with managing variations/changes to the works and ensuring accurate record-keeping.
  • Support the preparation and review of payment applications and certificates.
  • Assist with monthly valuations for client and subcontractor accounts.
  • Support processing interim and final payments.
  • Help verify completed works and quantities on-site, including measurement and take-offs.
  • Participate in site visits, progress meetings, and commercial discussions.
  • Ensure all work aligns with social housing regulations, building safety legislation, and organisational standards.
  • Support quality control processes, ensuring accurate documentation for audits.
  • Assist with managing risk registers, early warnings, and change control procedures.
  • Work closely with project managers, site teams, design teams, and subcontractors.
  • Assist in maintaining effective communication with clients, housing associations, and local authorities.
  • Provide administrative and commercial support to senior QS professionals

Key Skills & Experience:

  • Working toward or holding a relevant qualification (e.g., BSc Quantity Surveying, HNC/HND in Construction).
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills.
  • Understanding of construction measurements and valuation principles.
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Excel and general IT systems.
  • Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.
  • Willingness to learn and develop within a commercial team.
  • Experience within social housing, affordable housing, repairs & maintenance, or refurbishment.
  • Experience using estimating or cost-management software (COINS, Causeway, Procore, etc.).
