Job summary

Building Careers UK Ltd is recruiting an Assistant Quantity Surveyor / Assistant Estimator to join their commercial team in Cheshire. The role offers exposure to both estimating and quantity surveying within civil engineering, groundworks and landscaping projects.

Ideal candidates will have around two years' experience, a good eye for costs and measurements, and a proactive attitude. You will support tender submissions, cost breakdowns and procurement, while reporting to senior commercial staff.

Qualifications

• Two years' experience in civil engineering, groundworks or construction.
• Understanding of drawings, measurements and project costs.
• Strong numerical and analytical skills with attention to detail.
• Proactive attitude and desire to learn and progress.
• Good organisational skills and ability to manage competing priorities.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the commercial management of civil engineering, groundworks and landscaping projects.
• Support the preparation of estimates, tender submissions and detailed cost breakdowns.
• Review drawings, specifications and tender documentation to understand project requirements.
• Undertake measurements and quantity take-offs to establish material and labour requirements.
• Assist with obtaining and reviewing supplier and subcontractor quotations.
• Support procurement activities and maintain relationships with suppliers and subcontractors.
• Monitor project costs, budgets and expenditure, helping identify potential commercial risks.
• Assist with valuations, variations, cost reporting and final accounts.
• Liaise with site teams and project managers to monitor progress and ensure costs are accurately recorded.
• Maintain organised commercial records and estimating documentation.
• Develop an understanding of construction contracts, cost control and project financial management.
