Job summary

The Dean Neurological Centre is seeking an Assistant Psychologist to join a dedicated team in Gloucester. You will assist with assessments, formulations, and interventions under supervision, contributing to audits, research, and staff development.

Applicants should have an upper second-class psychology degree eligible for BPS Graduate Membership, experience in forensic or mental health settings, and strong communication and administration skills.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of an upper second-class honours degree in Psychology conferring eligibility for Graduate Membership of the British Psychological Society (BPS).
  • Experience of working as an Assistant Psychologist in a forensic and/or mental health setting in a similar role.
  • Experience of maintaining office systems and undertaking administration tasks.
  • Creative thinking, clinical efficacy and commitment to evidenced-based models of therapy.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • To meet HCPC standards of conduct, performance and ethics and BPS code of ethics.

Responsibilities

  • Contributing to psychological assessments and formulations.
  • Facilitating psychological interventions on a 1:1 and/or group basis to service users, monitoring and reporting on effectiveness.
  • Assisting in designing and delivering specialist training to others.
  • Maintaining clinical databases.
  • Completing outcome measures.
  • Writing reports for various audiences.
  • Service evaluation and research tasks including collecting, analysing, and reporting statistics.
  • Undertaking clinically relevant audits.

What you will be doing

You will be working with people neurological conditions who may have acquired brain or spinal cord injuries ,alongside addressing conditions like depression, self harm, physical health concerns, and psychological distress including trauma.

As an Assistant Psychologist you will have the opportunity to assist with assessments, formulations, and treatment to our service users, under the supervision of the Senior Psychologist. Y ou will also assist inclinically related administration including conduct of audits, collection of statistics, development of audit and/or research projects, teaching, and project work.

As an Assistant Psychologist you will be:

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A minimum of an upper second-class honours degree in Psychology conferring eligibility for Graduate Membership of the British Psychological Society (BPS)
  • Experience of working as an Assistant Psychologist in a forensic and/or mental health setting in a similar role
  • Experience of maintaining office systems and undertaking administration tasks
  • Creative thinking, clinical efficacy, and a strong commitment to working with evidenced based models of therapeutic intervention
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • To meet professional practice expectations including the HCPC standards of conduct, performance and ethics, and the BPS code of ethics and conduct

Where you will be working:

Tewkesbury Road, Longford, Gloucester, Gloucestershire, GL2 9EE

The Dean Neurological Centre has 60 beds in Gloucester (GL2 9EE), which is on the outskirts of the town within easy commute from Gloucester, Cheltenham with good transport links.

The Centre delivers specialist 24-hour nursing and therapy services for people with complex long-term neurological conditions who require ongoing support and assistance to maximise functional ability.

It specialises in slow stream rehabilitation where the emphasis is placed on maximising each individual's abilities, comfort and quality of life.

Bedrooms are fitted with high dependency equipment, including ceiling track hoists, wall mounted suction and oxygen equipment., with all rooms adapted to individual requirements. There are also well-equipped therapy facilities and other facilities such as gardens, gym and minibus.
