Job summary

Assistant Psychologist at Elysium Healthcare in Clacton-on-Sea (CO16) is a fixed-term 12-month role. 37.5 hours weekly, 9am-5pm, with a base salary of £28,000.

You will work under a Clinical Psychologist to deliver high-quality psychological care within a Tier 2 female rehabilitation service. The role requires a psychology degree with eligibility for BPS Graduate Membership and experience in forensic/mental health settings, including autism support.

What you will be doing

You will be working with people with Mental Health conditions, alongside addressing conditions like depression, self harm, physical health concerns, and psychological distress including trauma.

The post holder will support the delivery of high-quality psychological care within a Tier 2 female rehabilitation service for individuals with complex mental health and neurodivergent needs. Working under the supervision of a qualified Clinical Psychologist, the post holder will assist with psychological assessments, behavioural observations, intervention planning, formulation, data collection and service evaluation.

This is a Fixed Term Contract of 12 months.

37.5 hours a week. Monday-Friday 9am-5pm.

As an Assistant Psychologist you will be:

  • Contributing to psychological assessments and formulations
  • Facilitating psychological interventions on a 1:1 and/or group basis to service users, monitoring and reporting upon their effectiveness
  • Assisting in designing and delivering specialist training to others
  • Assisting with the delivery of reflective practice for staff
  • Maintaining clinical databases
  • Completing outcome measures
  • Writing reports for various audiences
  • Service evaluation and other research tasks including collecting, analysing, and reporting upon an array of statistics
  • Undertaking clinically relevant audits
  • Support individuals to achieve rehabilitation goals that maximise independence and quality of life
  • Work collaboratively with Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapists, Nursing staff, Psychiatry and wider MDT members
  • Promote person-centred, trauma-informed and autism-informed approaches to care
  • Encourage meaningful engagement in therapeutic and rehabilitation programmes
  • Assist in monitoring progress against rehabilitation outcomes

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A minimum of an upper second-class honours degree in Psychology conferring eligibility for Graduate Membership of the British Psychological Society (BPS)
  • Experience of working as an Assistant Psychologist in a forensic and/or mental health setting in a similar role
  • Experience of maintaining office systems and undertaking administration tasks
  • Creative thinking, clinical efficacy, and a strong commitment to working with evidenced based models of therapeutic intervention
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • To meet professional practice expectations including the HCPC standards of conduct, performance and ethics, and the BPS code of ethics and conduct
  • Minimum of two years’ experience supporting autistic individuals (ASD) within a rehabilitation, inpatient, residential, community, or specialistneurodevelopmental service
  • Experience working with adults presenting with complex neurodevelopmental needs
  • Experience supporting individuals who may display behaviours that challenge

Where you will be working:

Dunnock View is a 42-bed service, providing treatment for men and women who may have suffered trauma and are affected by Mental Health disorders.

A trauma-informed care model is used to focus on length of stay to make sure individuals are able to move as quickly and safely as possible from the service to the most appropriate and least restrictive environment for them.

Service users could be suffering from Acute mental illness, Psychosis, Schizophrenia, Bipolar, Personality Disorder, Dual diagnosis, Self-harm, Substance misuse issues.
