Job description

We are looking for an Assistant Project Manager to join our Buildings and Estates Project Management team based at the Red Bull Technology Campus in Milton Keynes. This opportunity is part of our growing Projects team, covering works across the Campus.

Are you recently graduated in Building Services, Construction or have some Construction related experience and are looking for a challenging place to progress your career?

The Assistant Project Manager role will be integral to supporting the expansion of our dynamic F1 facilities. You will be working on several projects at any one time both in a supporting role to a Senior Project Manager, but also managing your own projects from concept to completion.

As you would expect with F1, our facilities as well as our cars are constantly evolving, and the Project Management team are responsible for delivering any work that the business needs to succeed. This can be anything including new buildings construction, extensions, fit outs, refurbishments, technical plant and machinery installations.

Our Project Management team pride themselves in being more experienced and knowledgeable than a traditional ‘client side’ role and are involved in delivering exactly what is required for the business all the way through to full operation. We also design and self-deliver some of our construction projects and hold the Principal Contractor role, so we’re looking for someone who is adaptable and has a strong willingness to learn and develop their skills.

Due to the nature and sensitivity of our business, this is a site-based role where the APM will be expected to be on campus in Milton Keynes every day.

Our ideal candidate will have some on site construction experience from a Main Contractor or Sub-contractor level and be able to be hands on, working with our supply chain to deliver successful projects. You should expect to gain a significant amount of experience of varying project types within an extremely dynamic environment gaining great skills and knowledge for the future.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • On site management of construction trades around a live working environment, planning and coordinating work activities on a day-to-day basis
  • Delivering smaller projects of your own following an initial training period
  • Scoping up packages of works, obtaining quotes, reviewing, and instructing works
  • Prepare and review project H&S documentation, incl. reviewing contractor RAMS prior to works on site
  • Develop and review project delivery programmes and track against them, managing risks
  • Develop scoping proposals into financial approvals ready to deliver works on site
  • Working with a Senior Project Manager to drive the design and delivery of larger projects
  • Day to day liaison with departments and contractors when projects are in the delivery phase

Essential Competencies:

  • Understanding of building services and/or construction techniques
  • Attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills and good stakeholder management
  • Willingness to learn on the job
  • Dynamic thinking and determination to see projects through

Desirable Competencies

  • Experience of managing contractors
  • Working knowledge of the design process
  • Working knowledge of both Mechanical and Electrical building services systems
  • Working knowledge of the whole construction process
