Job summary

Boydell & Brewer Ltd. is seeking an Assistant Production Editor to join our Production team in Woodbridge. The role covers the full production cycle, from manuscript submission to press-ready files, with training and development opportunities. Reports to:Head of Production

Location:Bridge Farm Business Park, Top Street, Martlesham, Suffolk, IP12 4RB

Job Purpose:To manage scholarly titles through the production process from manuscript submission to press-ready files.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to begin a career in academic publishing with a respected international publisher. We are looking for an Assistant Production Editor to work in our Production department to support the successful delivery of our publishing programme.

The role offers full training and excellent opportunities for development and progression as your publishing knowledge and responsibilities grow.

This is a full-time role with a starting salary of £24,000 per annum for a 35-hour week. The role is based at our Woodbridge office, with the potential to move to a hybrid working arrangement at a later date (or remain fully office based if preferred).

Duties will include:
  • Dealing with all stages of a title from final manuscript submission through to press ready files.
  • Utilising an XML Workflow in the publication process
  • Preparing print and eBook files using InDesign.
  • Managing the relationship with authors while their book is in Production.
  • Liaising with freelance suppliers, including copyeditors, designers and typesetters.
About You

  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team.
  • Good IT skills with the ability to learn publishing systems and production software
  • Willingness to develop knowledge of XML workflows, Adobe InDesign and digital publishing formats.
  • Previous publishing experience
  • Knowledge of InDesign and Photoshop
