Job summary

HandleBards is seeking an Assistant Producer for the 2027 season. The role includes touring, hybrid working, and coordinating with the Producer to run day-to-day activities.

We require 3+ years in theatre/arts production, strong marketing experience, and excellent communication. Evening/weekend availability during tours and time in lieu apply; start date negotiations in Dec 2026.

Job Summary

We are looking for an Assistant Producer to join the HandleBards for our 2027 season. The HandleBards are an internationally renowned touring theatre company who bring our unique brand of sustainable Shakespeare to audiences worldwide.

Job Description

• Role: Assistant Producer
• Contract: 12-month fixed-term, with potential for extension
• Hours: 35 hours per week (full time)
• Salary: £32,000 per annum
• Location: London (hybrid working - mix of co-working space, remote, and touring)
• Reports to: Producer
• Holidays: 28 days including bank holidays
• Start date: December 2026 (negotiable)
• *Normal working days are Monday - Friday. Working evenings & weekends will be required during the tours for which time in lieu will be granted. Some on call over the tours will also be required. No extra payments for additional hours worked.

Purpose of the role

The Assistant Producer will support the Producer with the day-to-day running of The HandleBards. The role will include in-person working at a London co-working space, working from home, and will also involve visiting productions on tour (trips away varying from 2-7 days).

In 2027 we will be touring two shows to outdoor venues across the UK. There are also a couple of projects on the horizon that will make for an exciting year ahead.

Job Requirements

The role would suit someone with experience in theatre or arts production looking to join a team making joyful and sustainable touring theatre. We’re a small team producing work at a range of scales so we’re keen to hear from candidates with a broad skillset, particularly experience in arts marketing.
