Portfolio Payroll Limited in Manchester is seeking an experienced Assistant Payroll Manager to join our established payroll team. This role offers the chance to oversee multiple payrolls and contribute to the development of junior staff in a busy, client-focused practice.

You will work hybrid, handle complex queries, ensure HMRC compliance, and support the Payroll Manager with operational duties. The successful candidate will have end-to-end payroll experience within a bureau or practice and

Qualifications

• End-to-end payroll experience, ideally within an accountancy practice or bureau environment
• Strong understanding of UK payroll legislation
• Experience reviewing payrolls and supporting team members
• Excellent communication and organisational skills
• Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment

Responsibilities

• Supporting the management of a busy payroll bureau servicing a diverse client portfolio
• Processing and overseeing multiple payrolls on a weekly, fortnightly and monthly basis
• Reviewing payroll work to ensure accuracy and compliance
• Assisting with the management and development of junior team members
• Handling complex payroll queries and client relationships
• Ensuring compliance with HMRC legislation and payroll best practice
• Supporting the Payroll Manager with operational and team responsibilities
