Job summary

Bimplus is seeking an Assistant Package Manager (or Section Engineer) to drive delivery on a major Structural Steel and Envelope package in West London. You will support the Package Manager, monitor subcontractor progress and coordinate interfaces on site four days per week with one day remote.

Ideal candidates have Civil Engineering qualifications and NEC3 contract knowledge, strong documentation skills, and SMSTS. Exposure to steelwork and glazing is advantageous.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil Engineering (BSc/BEng/MSc) or NVQ/HND equivalent.
• On-site experience as Assistant Package Manager, Site Engineer, or Section Engineer on civil/infrastructure projects.
• Working knowledge of NEC3 contracts and change-management processes.
• Strong digital literacy and ability to write progress reports and site records.
• CSCS card and full right to work in the UK.
• Experience with structural steel, roofing, cladding, glazing is a plus.
• SMSTS certification.
• Working toward ICE/APM membership.
• Experience with electronic document control platforms (CEMAR, Business Collaborator, eB).

Responsibilities

• Assist the Package Manager in daily management of structural steel, roofing, cladding and glazing scopes.
• Monitor subcontractor site activities, track plant and labour, log progress against deliverables.
• Manage Activity Readiness certifications and document workflows.
• Track scope changes with Quantity Surveyor, raise early warnings, and notifiable events.
• Coordinate between site, design teams and subcontractors to resolve clashes.
• Promote health, safety and environmental standards; conduct inspections and close quality issues.

Location: West London (Major Infrastructure Project)

Reporting To: Package Manager

The Role

Looking for an ambitious Assistant Package Manager (or Section Engineer) to assist in driving the delivery of major Structural Steel and Envelope packages (Roofing, Cladding, Glazing) on a Tier 1 mega-project.

You will work directly alongside the Package Manager to drive subcontractor progress on site, manage activity readiness, support NEC3 contract administration, and coordinate day-to-day site interfaces.

They're looking for someone to be on site 4 days a week, with 1 day a week working from home.

Key Responsibilities

Package Support: Assist the Package Manager in the daily management of structural steel, roofing, cladding, and glazing scopes.

Subcontractor Tracking: Monitor daily subcontractor site activities, track plant and labour counts, and accurately log progress against key package deliverables.

Activity Readiness & Documentation: Manage Activity Readiness certification processes and navigate project documentation through required approval workflows.

Commercial & NEC3 Administration: Work with the package team and Quantity Surveyor to track scope changes, raise early warnings, and identify notifiable events.

Interface Coordination: Coordinate between site teams, design teams, and subcontractors to highlight design clashes and keep site works moving smoothly.

Safety & Quality: Promote strict health, safety, and environmental standards on site, conducting inspections and closing out quality issues.

Requirements

Education: Degree (BSc, BEng, MSc) in Civil Engineering or equivalent NVQ/HND qualification.

Site Experience: Background as an Assistant Package Manager, Site Engineer, or Section Engineer on civil engineering/infrastructure projects.

Contract Awareness: Working understanding of NEC3 contracts and change-management processes.

Documentation & Reporting: Strong digital literacy and experience writing clear progress reports and site records.

Certifications: Valid CSCS card; full right to work in the UK.

Prior exposure to structural steelwork, roofing, cladding, or glazing works.

SMSTS certification.

Working toward professional membership (ICE, APM, or equivalent).

Experience using electronic document control platforms (CEMAR, Business Collaborator, eB).
