Job summary

ICAEW is seeking an Assistant Manager to manage a varied portfolio of SME and owner-managed clients, delivering management accounts and outsourced finance services while acting as a trusted adviser. You will work closely with senior leadership and coach junior staff, developing into a future senior leader in a growing firm.

You'll gain exposure to client meetings, advisory work, and business growth initiatives, with a supportive culture and clear progression opportunities across a diverse client

Qualifications

• ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualification required.
• Experience producing management accounts in an accountancy practice.
• Experience with SME/owner-managed clients.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
• Mentoring junior staff or willingness to coach.
• Excellent organisational skills with multiple deadlines.
• Commercial mindset and analytical skills.
• Xero experience is essential.
• Ambitious and motivated to progress in a growing firm.

Responsibilities

• Managing a portfolio of SME and owner-managed business clients.
• Preparing and reviewing monthly and quarterly management accounts.
• Acting as a day-to-day contact for client queries and finance-related advice.
• Overseeing bookkeeping and outsourced finance functions.
• Reviewing VAT returns and supporting wider tax compliance requirements.
• Working closely with colleagues across accounts, tax, payroll and advisory teams.
• Coaching and reviewing the work of junior team members.
• Supporting reporting, analysis and financial planning activities.
• Identifying opportunities to add value and strengthen client relationships.
• Assisting with business development and client growth initiatives.
