Role: Assistant Manager – Accountancy Practice

Salary: Up to £36,000

Located: Sheffield

Hours: 37.5 hour flexible working week, Monday to Friday (1 day work from home)

We are currently supporting an impressive business based in Sheffield as they look to recruit an Assistant Manager within the accountancy firm. This role will be responsible for preparing accounts, reviewing VAT and tax returns, and acting as a senior member of the team, supporting junior colleagues. You will support the Director with ad hoc tasks, making this a perfect step for someone looking to progress!

Main duties/responsibilities:
  • Review quarterly VAT returns
  • Maintain own client base for quarterly VAT portfolio, ensuring records are requested, received, and processed on time, meeting deadlines
  • Prepare year-end accounts for limited companies, sole traders, and partnerships for manager review, including balance sheet reconciliations (bank accounts, PAYE, VAT, corporation tax, directors' loan accounts, etc.)
  • Prepare self-assessment tax returns for limited company directors, sole traders, clients with rental properties, or other reasons
  • Manage own workload, prioritize deadlines, and liaise with manager/director
  • Assist manager/director with ad hoc tasks, specifically HMRC enquiries
  • Train and assist junior team members
You will have:
  • Strong experience within an accountancy practice
  • Qualified by experience or AAT qualified/part-qualified ACA/ACCA
  • Experience with accountancy software such as Xero, QuickBooks, IRIS (preferable)
