Job summary

SF Recruitment is seeking an Assistant Management Accountant for a 12-month fixed-term contract to cover maternity leave in a North Derby office. The role is hands-on, balancing month-end accounting with transactional finance and reporting to the Head of Finance.

You will collaborate with the AP Manager and finance team, handling journals, reconciliations, supplier invoices, stock and asset processing, and process improvements.

Qualifications

• Experience in a mixed transactional finance and month-end role.
• Able to work across full finance function with hands-on approach.
• Comfortable improving processes and suggesting improvements.

Responsibilities

• Supporting month-end activities, including posting journals, prepayments, rebates and other adjustments
• Assisting with balance sheet reconciliations
• Processing and posting supplier invoices
• Matching invoices to purchase orders and goods receipts
• Resolving supplier invoice queries
• Supporting the maintenance of accurate financial records
• Processing stock adjustment journals and inventory transactions
• Supporting fixed asset accounting, including additions, disposals and transfers
• Raising and processing intercompany recharge invoices
• Supporting reporting and other general accounting activities
• Providing support to the wider finance team where required
• Identifying opportunities to improve processes and ways of working

Job description

SF Recruitment are currently exclusively recruiting for an Assistant Management Accountant to join a business in North Derby on a 12-month fixed-term contract to provide maternity cover.

Working as part of a small and close-knit finance team, you will report directly to the Head of Finance and work closely with the AP Manager. This is a varied, hands‑on position offering a genuine mix of month‑end accounting responsibilities and transactional finance duties.

Assistant Management Accountant

Salary: £30,000

Contract: 12-Month Fixed-Term Contract

Hours: 37.5 hours per week, with flexible start and finish times

Working Pattern: Fully office based

The role would suit someone who enjoys variety and is happy to remain involved in the day-to-day transactional side of finance alongside their month-end responsibilities. This could be a strong opportunity for an experienced Finance Assistant or Assistant Accountant with solid month-end exposure, or an Assistant Management Accountant who is comfortable taking a hands‑on approach and is happy to continue supporting the transactional side of the finance function.

The Candidate

The ideal candidate will have experience within a varied finance position and will be comfortable working across both transactional finance and month-end accounting duties.

The key thing is finding someone who is happy to be hands‑on and enjoys working across the full finance function. This role would be less suited to someone looking to move away from transactional finance entirely, as this will remain an important part of the position.

• AAT advantageous
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Confidence working with data and finance systems
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work with stakeholders across the business
• A willingness to get involved and support wherever needed
• Ideally, experience using Microsoft Dynamics 365 and comfortable suggesting improvements etc.

Additional Information

• The position is fully office based within modern, open-plan offices. The business offers some flexibility around working hours, with employees able to vary their start and finish times around the core working day.
• This is a maternity cover contract for an initial period of 12 months. The successful candidate is ideally required to start as soon as possible, although there may be some flexibility for the right person.
