Job description

We have an exciting opportunity available for an Assistant Management Accountant to join our busy finance team based at our Head Office in Liverpool City Centre. This is an excellent opportunity to join a thriving business, assisting the lead accountant on a number of entities within the Downing business, covering all aspects of reporting and financial management.

Downing is a family-owned, award-winning leading developer, owner, and operator of bespoke, luxury student accommodation, residential, and commercial properties across the UK. We have been operating for over 35 years and currently have 14 operational student accommodation schemes in 10 major cities, with an impressive £1.6bn worth of developments in the pipeline.

Key Responsibilities:

The role includes coordinating various tasks to ensure the management accountants can prepare timely and accurate quarterly accounts and reports.

  • Preparation of balance sheet items (e.g., accruals, etc.)
  • Reconciliation of bank accounts
  • Reconciliation of balance sheet and profit & loss accounts
  • Processing invoices, coding, and matching to POs
  • Producing pay runs following appropriate authorization processes
  • Reconciling to supplier statements
  • Resolving student queries by phone & email
  • Communicating with site staff regarding student accounts/queries
  • Chasing debts & issuing weekly debtors reports
  • Ensuring student accounts are correct & up to date
  • Reconciling internal records to online payment records
Key Requirements:
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Ability to work using your own initiative and manage your own time effectively
  • High attention to detail
  • Strong technical and practical knowledge of management accounts
  • First-class communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Professional qualification is ideal but not essential
