Assistant Management Accountant

Are you a proactive, detail-oriented finance professional looking to develop your career in the education sector? As our Finance team continues to grow, we're creating this additional role of Assistant Management Accountant-join us at Halesowen College and play a key role in delivering financial insights that drive strategic decisions across the College.

What You'll Do:

  • Prepare Monthly Management Accounts: Assist with month-end close, review postings, reconcile balances, and produce clear, accurate management reports.
  • Support Budgeting & Forecasting: Collaborate with department leads to gather assumptions, build annual budgets, and update rolling forecasts.
  • Analyse Variances: Investigate variances against budget/forecast, highlight trends, and recommend cost-optimisation opportunities.
  • Financial Reporting & Systems: Maintain and enhance reporting tools, ensuring data integrity within our finance systems.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with senior management and non-finance colleagues to explain results, provide actionable analysis, and support decision-making.
About You:
  • Accounting Qualification/Experience: AAT-qualified, part-qualified, degree-educated in Accountancy/Finance, or demonstrable management accounting experience.
  • Technical Skills: Advanced Excel, familiarity with financial software, comfortable learning new reporting tools and ERP systems
  • Analytical Mindset: Natural curiosity for numbers-able to spot anomalies, drill into root causes, and present findings in plain English.
  • Communication & Teamwork: Strong verbal and written communication; confident presenting to senior stakeholders and collaborating with diverse teams.
  • Attention to Detail: A commitment to accuracy, ensuring that all financial information is reliable and delivered on time.
