Shared Services Partnership in Hampshire is seeking an Assistant Highway Engineer (Permit Scheme Activity Coordinator) to deliver regulatory duties under the New Roads & Street Works Act 1991 and Network Management Duties under the Traffic Management Act 2004, coordinating works and monitoring activities.
The role covers the East Hampshire area and requires highways experience, flexibility and the ability to travel, with occasional out-of-hours work to respond to weather or emergencies.

To deliver the regulatory duties of the New Roads & Street Works Act 1991 and Network Management Duties of the Traffic Management Act 2004 (through coordinating works and activities and inspecting and monitoring County Council and utility works and stakeholder communication) to ensure statutory obligations are met in accordance with legislation The County Councils Permit Scheme, agreed policies, procedures and budgets.
This role will be undertaken in the East Hampshire area (East Hants & Havant)
You’ll coordinate utility works, County Council works and public events to minimise traffic disruption. You’ll inspect utility and County Council works on the highway to identify and resolve defects and improve works quality in close liaison with contractors. You’ll also respond to queries from members of the public and other stakeholders, as well as supporting the local works Streetworks inspector and performance management team.
Appropriate highways experience, flexibility and the ability to manage a workload with minimal supervision are key. In addition good customer care and communication skills are essential.
You will have the ability to fulfill the travel requirements of the role and, as required, be able to work out of hours to respond to weather and other emergencies.
This is a coordination role not highway design/engineering.
