Job summary

Philosophy Education Ltd. is partnering with a specialist SEMH school in Bromley to recruit an Assistant Headteacher to join the senior leadership team.

The role focuses on strategic and operational leadership across the school, improving behaviour, safeguarding, and the educational experience for pupils with SEMH needs. You will work with the Headteacher and SLT to develop positive school culture, support staff, monitor pupil progress and ensure high standards of teaching, learning and pastoral

Qualifications

• Experience of leadership within a school or specialist setting.
• Strong SEMH understanding and needs of vulnerable pupils.
• Outstanding or highly effective classroom practitioner.
• Proven track record in improving behaviour, engagement and outcomes.
• Confident in leading, developing and supporting staff.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Calm, resilient, and consistent in challenging situations.
• Passion for inclusion and ensuring every young person can succeed.
• Experience in SEMH school, PRU, or specialist provision is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic and operational leadership across the school.
• Lead on behaviour, pastoral provision and whole-school priorities.
• Promote a positive, nurturing approach to behaviour management.
• Support high-quality teaching and learning across the school.
• Monitor pupil progress, attendance and engagement.
• Coach, mentor and line-manage staff effectively.
• Work with families and external professionals to support pupils.
• Support safeguarding culture and procedures.
• Contribute to school improvement planning and leadership.
