Job description

Hallwood Park Primary School is seeking an exceptional Assistant Headteacher to help lead our school through the next exciting chapter of its journey.

Now part of the Shaw Education Trust, Hallwood Park is a charming and welcoming small school set in stunning grounds, complete with a pond and allotment. Our children are happy, enthusiastic, and eager to learn - and we are proud of the nurturing, inclusive environment that helps them thrive.

We are looking for an experienced, dynamic, and driven leader to support the Headteacher in delivering the school’s strategic vision. This is a pivotal role for someone who can inspire staff, drive improvement, and uphold outstanding classroom practice. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of raising standards and leading change with impact.

This is a unique opportunity to be part of a close-knit school community, with the backing of a forward-thinking trust. If you are passionate about making a difference and want to play a key role in the next stage of Hallwood Park’s development, we would love to hear from you.

We warmly welcome potential applicants to visit the school. Visits can be accommodated during the week of 2nd - 6th June. Please contact the school office to arrange a convenient time.

Be part of something special. Join us at Hallwood Park - where your leadership will help shape bright futures.

We are a friendly half-form entry primary school with our own nursery, situated on a large site in a peaceful corner of the Hallwood Park Estate in Runcorn. Visitors to the school often comment on the calm, warm atmosphere around the building and are amazed at how much outdoor space we have!

We aim to create a nurturing school community, where children excel in their achievements and are inspired to continue learning in the future.

Hallwood Park Primary School and Nursery nurtures its pupils by:

  • Providing a safe, happy school in which pastoral care is given high priority by dedicated staff;
  • Expecting and promoting the highest standards of behaviour;
  • Giving children an excellent, secure start to their school experience in our Nursery and establishing positive relationships with parents;
  • Developing a strong sense of community and pride, with a “family feel” to the school.

Shaw Education Trust is a thriving group of diverse and growing schools including Primary, Secondary, and Special Schools, all working together to improve the lives of young people in our communities. We are sponsored by Shaw Trust, a charity organization focused on transforming lives. We’re a growing group of dynamically innovative academies providing education to children of all ages and abilities. Staff across our schools are dedicated to ensuring every child has the opportunity to succeed, regardless of their starting point in life.

We believe that everyone has the potential to be extraordinary!

To support this, our Primary schools within the trust pursue excellence through research-based collaboration and innovation. Our developing, Trust-wide, 3D Primary curriculum and pioneering Digital Strategy are designed to create inspirational, energetic, and immersive learning experiences. These enable every child to flourish within a caring, stimulating, and purposeful atmosphere; fully prepared for their next stage of life and learning.

We recognize that at primary school, the quality of teaching significantly impacts children’s social behaviour and intellectual development. This stage of learning has a powerful influence on children’s academic progress. The partnership between home, pre-school, and primary school is vital to success, as extensive research shows, providing a strong foundation for children to succeed.

Unlike other MATs, we don’t enforce a uniform curriculum. Instead, we support each school to offer a programme that deepens knowledge, develops skills, sparks imagination, and fires curiosity.

Our schools span from Birmingham to Bury, supporting students from diverse backgrounds and socioeconomic statuses, ensuring all children access high-quality education and are treated equally.

Shaw Education Trust offers the following employee benefits for teaching and support staff:

  • Support Staff only: Full-time, all-year employment with generous holiday entitlement from day one (37 days rising to 39 days after 5 years, including Bank Holidays)
  • Electric Car Scheme: Environmentally friendly vehicles.
  • Access to Medicash Health & Wellbeing Plan for health support.
  • Discount Scheme for Teachers: Savings through various discounts and offers.
  • Free Eye Tests
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Opportunities to grow and flourish through our Institute of Education and other initiatives.

We are committed to making the employment experience rewarding and recognize our people as key to our success.

Benefits for colleagues within the Trust include: Access to a range of professional courses, including NPQ qualifications, delivered by the Shaw Education Trust in partnership with Ambition Institute. Additional support from experienced leaders, guidance from former HMIs and Ofsted inspectors, access to the Trust’s Institute of Education and SCITT, opportunities for cross-school projects, online courses, and placement opportunities within our schools.

Hallwood Park Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. All staff and volunteers are expected to share this commitment. This position is subject to vetting procedures including online checks and a criminal record check via the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS), requiring full disclosure of all relevant criminal history.

All shortlisted candidates will undergo an online search as part of safer recruitment procedures.

We reserve the right to appoint before the closing date as applications are reviewed on an ongoing basis. Early applications are encouraged.

We are an Equal Opportunities employer and will ensure our recruitment practices reflect this. CVs alone will not be accepted; all applications must adhere to our safer recruitment policy. Successful candidates will undergo a fully Enhanced DBS check and other relevant employment checks.
