Job Description

We are looking for an Assistant Head of Infrastructure to be based at a critical defence asset in Central London. Alongside managing and overseeing the Above Secret (AS) Infrastructure facilities within MOD Corsham, London, Gloucester, and Hampshire, the role includes:

  • Working closely with the Defence Infrastructure Organisation and the Private Finance Initiative Contract Lead, as required, across all AS sites.
  • Leading and establishing an Above Secret Working Group across all AS sites.
  • Ensuring that all reporting and assurance activities are completed, kept up to date, and any required escalations are undertaken.
  • Developing second-line assurance responsibilities across the Defence Digital Estate.
  • Line management of the two Heads of Establishment at the London and Hampshire sites.
  • Delivering and supporting any additional tasking from the Station Commander/Dep Head of Corporate Operations as required to support operational activity.
  • Supporting the development of a broader future estate plan for MOD Corsham and other AS sites.
  • Delivering and supporting any tasks as directed by Director Ops Defence Digital.

Person specification

This role would suit an individual who has worked in diverse, complex, and challenging environments. The ideal candidate will have:

  • A strong background in infrastructure.
  • The ability to engage effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Extensive experience communicating at all levels, including chairing meetings, presenting, and participating in various boards, working groups, and meetings.
  • The ability to work at pace, manage competing priorities, and adapt flexibly to emerging issues.
  • Line management experience, with the ability to provide strong support to a wider team.

Hybrid Working

Where business needs allow, some roles may be suitable for a combination of office and home-based working. This is a non-contractual arrangement where all employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in office, subject to capacity. Requirements to attend other locations for official business, or work in another MOD office will also count towards this level of attendance. Applicants can request further information regarding how this may work in their team from the vacancy holder (see advert for contact details). This position is advertised at 37 hours per week. The successful candidate is required to carry out all their duties from a UK location and cannot do so from an overseas location at any time.

The post does not offer relocation expenses.

External recruits who join the MOD who are new to the Civil Service will be subject to a six-month probation period.
