Job summary

J C Bamford Excavators Ltd is hiring for a hands-on greenkeeping role on-site. You will cut playing surfaces, maintain bunkers and greens, and ensure the course is presented to guests and visitors at all times.

You will perform aeration, turfing, machinery operation, and chemical handling under COSHH guidelines. A UK driving licence is required and PA1/PA6 and First Aid are advantageous.

Qualifications

• SVQ/NVQ level 2 in sports turf maintenance or equivalent.
• Minimum of 1 year experience in an assistant greenkeeping position.
• PA1 & PA6 Certification favourable.
• First Aid Certification favourable.
• Must hold full UK driving license.

Responsibilities

• Cutting all playing surfaces, change holes, set up golf course for play and prepare bunkers.
• Construction, aeration and turfing works.
• Adhere to health and safety policies and SOP guidelines at all times.
• Ensure and supervise safe operation of all machinery and equipment used by greenkeeping staff.
• Handle chemicals used by greenkeeping staff safely and competently.
• Accept training to develop skills further.
• Care for machinery and report losses or damages.
• Supervise small projects and seasonal greenkeepers.
• Prevent long-term turf damage and contribute to overall course care.
• Participate in propagation of grass and plants.
• Perform any tasks to support department workflow.

What does this role involve day to day?

• Cutting all playing surfaces, change holes, setting up golf course for play, preparing bunkers, any spraying that is required; ensuring that the course is presented in the best possible condition to exceed the expectations of guests and visitors at all times
• Construction, Aeration and turfing works
• Understand the companies policies on health and safety and to ensure that all duties performed are carried out with full regard to the safety of the customers, visitors, contractors and other employees; work within the health and safety, COSHH, Risk Assessment and SOP guidelines at all times
• Ensure and supervise the operation and safe handling of all machinery and equipment used by the greenkeeping staff
• Competency in the efficient and effective operation and safe handling of all chemicals used by greenkeeping staff
• Accept training and instruction to further skill set and personal development
• Responsible for the care of machinery and the reporting of loss or damage to Equipment Manager
• Supervise small projects and seasonal greenkeepers
• Ensure that care is taken at all times to prevent any long term damage to the turf/golf course
• Participates in the propagation of grass and other plants
• Any required task to contribute to the workflow and smooth running of the department/organisation.

• You have knowledge of the methods used in the care and maintenance of golf courses.
• You have knowledge of the care and maintenance of grass greens
• You have knowledge of the uses and operating methods of the equipment and tools used in golf course maintenance
• You have knowledge of turf diseases and the methods and chemicals used to control them
• You possess good interpersonal skills in order to communicate effectively
• You maintain a positive attitude in all work-related circumstances
