Job summary

Agricultural Recruitment Specialists Ltd is seeking an Assistant General Manager for a multi-species abattoir and food manufacturing facility in Staffordshire. The role supports the General Manager and focuses on safe, efficient and compliant operations across slaughter, butchery and processing.

The successful candidate will develop towards a General Manager role, leading teams in production, hygiene, maintenance and quality, while driving cost controls and performance improvements.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in abattoir, meat processing, food manufacturing or similar operational role.
• Strong leadership and people management skills with the ability to drive performance.
• Good understanding of food safety, HACCP, BRCGS/SALSA and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day site operations across slaughter, butchery and food production.
• Deputise for the General Manager and maintain overall site performance.
• Oversee production planning, throughput, yield, and cost control.
• Support continuous improvement and KPI reviews across the site.
• Ensure compliance with animal welfare, hygiene, traceability and audit readiness.
