Job summary

JD Gyms in Newcastle upon Tyne seeks an experienced gym manager to lead a high-performing club. You will supervise Fitness Coaches and General Assistants, maintain brand standards, and drive a strong member experience.

You will be responsible for safety, daily operations, and achieving membership and sales goals, while promoting a positive team culture and customer focus.

Qualifications

• Proven management experience within a leisure-related industry.
• Passionate about customer service and inspirational leadership.
• Proven track record in driving sales and coordinating local marketing activities.
• Experience recruiting and managing a successful team.
• Experience as an Assistant Manager or Fitness Manager is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to Health and Safety policies and company procedures.
• Maintain JD Gyms Brand Standards.
• Conduct daily/weekly/monthly safety checks and report defects.
• Recruit and manage a team of Fitness Coaches and General Assistants to ensure club operations and coverage.
• Hold regular team meetings to drive development and maintain communication.
• Aim to meet or exceed sales and membership targets and drive additional revenue.
• Ensure cleanliness and upkeep of the gym facility and implement uniform standards.
• Oversee banking processes to minimise wastage and protect profit.
• Deliver outstanding member service and be an ambassador of JD Gyms.
• Foster a positive, collaborative environment where the team enjoys work.

Role overview:

This role requires a team player with flair and commercial ability, as well as the skill, energy and determination to help drive and develop the business alongside the General Manager. We're looking for a manager with the experience of maintaining and developing the standards and reputation, whilst nurturing a growing membership base and team.

Responsibilities:

• Ensure that all policies and procedures in both the Health and Safety Employee Policy and Company Procedures Handbook are adhered to.
• Responsible for adhering to and maintaining the JD Gyms Brand Standard.
• Conduct daily, weekly, and monthly safety checks. Report and chase all defects, to ensure the building and its equipment is safe to use.
• Recruit and manage a team of employed Fitness Coaches and General Assistants to ensure the club is operational cover to ensure daily expectations are delivered.
• Hold regular team meetings to aid development and keep everyone updated.
• To work towards and aim to achieve all sales and membership targets that are set.
• To drive and maximise secondary spending revenue.
• To ensure the whole of the gym facility is of the highest standard of cleanliness.
• Ensure the in-house cleaners (General Assistant) are cleaning to the highest standard. To manage the weekly banking process so that wastage and variance is minimal, maximising profit.
• To ensure uniform standards are being adhered to by all team members and yourself.
• To always deliver outstanding member service.
• To help create an environment where the team enjoy themselves whilst at work.
• To always be an ambassador of JD Gyms.

Skills and Experience:

• Must have a proven and successful track record of management experience within a leisure related industry.
• Must be passionate about customer service and be an inspirational leader in the way they manage.
• Must be qualified to at least Level 2 Gym Instructor
• Must have a proven track record in driving sales and co-ordinating local marketing activity as well as of recruiting and managing a successful team.
• Ideally will have experience as an Assistant Manager helping to oversee all business areas within a leisure facility or have substantial experience as a Fitness Manager or other similar operational function.
