Job summary

Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an Assistant General Manager to support operational leadership for Radiology services. You will drive performance against RTT, cancer and diagnostic targets, oversee staffing, and lead service improvement initiatives.

Working with clinical and operational teams, you will monitor performance data, manage waiting lists, and prepare reports for divisional and Trust boards.

Qualifications

• GCSE English and Maths to C grade or higher, educated to degree level or equivalent in NHS environment.
• Evidence of ongoing professional development in management training and NHS operations.

• Experience managing complaints investigations and translating learnings into improvements.
• In-depth knowledge of cancer and 18-week RTT targets and their application.

This is an exciting opportunity for an aspiring operational leader to develop their management experience within an NHS environment. Working closely with the General Manager, clinical leaders and multidisciplinary teams, you will play a key role in supporting service delivery, improving patient pathways and driving operational performance across Imaging services. You will be responsible for supporting the day-to-day operational management of the service, ensuring patients receive timely access to diagnostic services while maintaining high standards of quality, safety and patient experience., The Assistant General Manager will support the operational leadership and performance management of Radiology services, ensuring delivery against national and local targets, including RTT and cancer pathway standards. The post holder will work closely with clinical and operational teams to drive service improvement and transformation initiatives, monitor and analyse performance data, develop recovery and improvement plans, and support the efficient delivery of patient pathways. They will build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, prepare reports for operational forums, support workforce management activities including recruitment, appraisal and staff development, and deputise for the General Manager as required. Through collaborative leadership, the role will contribute to improving service quality, patient experience, operational effectiveness and outcomes across Radiology., Our Radiology Service plays a vital role in delivering high-quality diagnostic and interventional services across Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Supporting thousands of patients each year, the department provides a comprehensive range of imaging services including MRI, CT, Ultrasound, X-ray, Fluoroscopy and Interventional Radiology. The post holder will monitor performance, waiting lists, capacity and demand, identify risks and opportunities for improvement, and lead service improvement and transformation initiatives. They will provide leadership to administrative, booking and support teams, overseeing workforce management activities including recruitment, induction, appraisal, training, wellbeing and performance management. The role will also involve supporting complaints and incident processes, preparing reports for operational forums, managing resources effectively, and working collaboratively with clinical and non-clinical colleagues to improve patient experience, service quality and operational performance across Radiology.

• GCSE English and Maths to C grade or higher, Educated to degree level or equivalent level of knowledge, training and experience in an NHS operational or administrative environment.
• Evidence of ongoing professional development such as attendance at management training (I Lead, I Manage), Experience of working in an NHS operational, administrative or service delivery role within a busy healthcare environment.
• Experience of supporting team coordination, workload prioritization, rota cover or staff supervision
• Experience of managing or contributing to complaints investigations, preparing clear and timely responses, and ensuring learning is translated into service improvement actions., Previous experience in a relevant speciality, Broad knowledge of the delivery of health services.
• In-depth knowledge of cancer and 18-week RTT targets and their application.
• Demonstrable knowledge of techniques for planning, monitoring and controlling projects and programmes.
• Able to work independently, use initiative and prioritise own and others' workloads within agreed objectives.
• Can work under pressure and respond to short timescales, delivering work on time and with accuracy.
