We are seeking a highly organized and proactive Assistant Financial Controller to oversee a team of four assistant accountants who are currently studying towards their accounting qualifications. The Assistant Financial Controller will be responsible for ensuring accurate and timely balance sheet reconciliations, maintaining strong financial controls, and supporting the Financial Controller in the delivery of financial reporting and compliance.
Core role responsibilities:
- Manage and mentor a team of 4 assistant accountants, providing guidance and support as they develop their skills and progress through their professional studies.
- Oversee and perform comprehensive balance sheet reconciliations on a monthly and quarterly basis to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Establish, maintain, and enhance internal financial controls to mitigate risks and improve operational efficiency.
- Coordinate month-end and year-end closing processes in collaboration with the Financial Controller and finance team.
- Ensure all month end close activities are completed in line with the deadlines set by Group.
- Review and approve journal entries, accruals, prepayments, and adjustments prepared by the assistant accountants.
- Support the Financial Controller with financial reporting, variance analysis, and audit preparation.
- Identify process improvements and implement best practices in reconciliation and control procedures.
- Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards, company policies, and regulatory requirements.
- Liaise with external auditors, tax advisors, and other stakeholders as required.
- Provide training and development opportunities for the assistant accountants to help them build competence and confidence.
- ACA, ACCA, CIMA qualified (or equivalent) essential.
- 5 years + PQE.
Experience:
- Proven experience in a Assistant Financial Controller or senior accounting role.
- Background in external or internal audit.
- Strong background in balance sheet reconciliations, account analysis, and internal controls.
- Experience managing or supervising a team of junior finance professionals.
Skills:
- Excellent technical accounting knowledge and attention to detail.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Proficient in accounting software and MS Excel.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
