Job description

Working on a family-run farm in the Lutterworth Area of the East Midlands, this is a great opportunity to experience all tasks involved in running a mixed farm, from formulating a beef ration and driving a combine to buying livestock and generating an annual budget. A full-time position will be available upon successful completion of the apprenticeship for the right candidate.

You will work as part of a small team and, with initial training, be able to plan your own day. You need to be proactive with problems as they arise. Most of your apprenticeship will be spent working hands-on in tasks such as:

  • Daily care for 200 head of cattle
  • Daily care for a small flock of sheep
  • Maintaining accurate livestock and field records
  • Implementing regenerative farming techniques
  • Primary and secondary cultivations
  • Drilling, fertiliser spreading, and spraying
  • Combining and corn carting
  • Muck and bale carting
  • Mowing, fencing, and pressure washing
  • Machinery and equipment maintenance and diagnostics

Responsibilities include maintaining livestock welfare standards, adhering to health, safety, and bio-security protocols, and keeping the farm yard and equipment tidy. Training will be provided through online reviews, occasional visits, and tutorials, with a combination of face-to-face and online learning.

Requirements:

  • A Level 3 in Agriculture is advantageous
  • Full driving license required; tractor/telehandler license desirable
  • Maths and English Grade 4 preferred but not necessary

Working hours are from 8 am to 5 pm Monday to Friday, with breaks, and on a rota basis on weekends and busy periods from July to October, extending up to 10 pm. Minimum 40 hours per week.

We seek a motivated individual with agricultural experience, leadership and problem-solving skills, a hands-on approach, good communication, attention to detail, and team spirit. Punctuality, flexibility, and physical fitness are essential.
