Qualifications

• Outdoor/public-space maintenance experience preferred.
• Ability to perform physically demanding outdoor work in all weather.

Responsibilities

• Carry out street cleansing and litter removal in designated areas.
• Perform grounds maintenance including mowing, pruning and planting.
• Winter operations such as snow clearance and gritting as required.
• Inspect equipment, report faults and maintain safety procedures.
• Work with the team and communicate via handheld ICT devices.
• Engage with members of the public in a courteous manner.
• Be flexible to work weekends and public holidays when needed.

• Street Cleansing: Empty litter and dog waste bins, clear waste, litter, and fly tipping to maintain clean public spaces.
• Grounds Maintenance: Carry out grass cutting, strimming, pruning, and planting as part of the environmental maintenance programme.
• Winter Operations: Support statutory duties such as snow clearance and gritting during colder months.
• Operational Support: Work primarily within one area of Sunderland but assist in other localities as required.
• Equipment and Safety: Conduct pre-use equipment checks, report faults, and adhere to all health and safety procedures.
• Team Collaboration: Work closely with colleagues, follow team leader instructions, and communicate effectively through handheld ICT devices.
• Physical Work: Perform frequent lifting, carrying, and outdoor work in all weather conditions.
• Customer Interaction: Engage courteously and professionally with members of the public.
• Flexibility: Be willing to work weekends and public holidays when required to meet the council's operational needs.
