Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) is recruiting for a full time Assistant Environmental Protection Officer on a permanent basis. This hybrid post requires on-site days at Eurocentral Office in Motherwell, with flexible working patterns.

You will support regulatory activities, assist investigations into environmental crime, and visit sites to collect evidence. Strong reports, stakeholder communication, and MS Office skills are essential.

Qualificações

• HND qualification in a relevant scientific discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
• Experience in regulatory/enforcement roles, with the ability to triage and prioritise in a fast-paced team.
• Effective communication with a range of stakeholders, including business owners and the public.
• Experience in producing written reports and documentation using standard office tools.

Work that goes beyond your desk

• Provides support for the regulatory activities of significant environmental crime (unlicenced activities) including dealing with Serious Organised Criminality in the waste sector
• The role will work closely with and assist a dedicated team of officers who carry out what can be complex investigations into deliberate environmental criminality. This may include gathering evidence to assist with the issue of a Variable Monetary Penalty or the submission of a report to COPFS
• The role is expected to visit sites alongside colleagues to gather evidence in the form of statements, site records or other forms of evidence and assist team members in the processing and reporting of environmental crime related data
• Routine compliance assessment work and low level complaint response and enforcement work

This is a highly important role within our Regulation, Business & Environment portfolio, which means you’ll need:

• An HND qualification in a relevant scientific discipline, or equivalent professional experience
• Experience working in a regulatory and/or enforcement roles, with the ability to effectively triage and prioritise work within a fast-paced team environment, escalating risks and issues where necessary
• Effective communication skills with a range of stakeholders, preferably experience in communicating with business owners and/or members of the public
• Experience in producing written reports and documentation
• Proficiency in using Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, and Excel
