Job summary

SEPA in Scotland is seeking an Environment Protection Officer (Reservoirs) on a fixed-term basis until 31 March 2028. The role focuses on enforcing safety standards across reservoirs and advising managers and engineers on risk and compliance.

Qualifications

  • Minimum HND/SCQF Level 8-10 or equivalent qualification.
  • Technical knowledge/experience of enforcement and/or environmental regulation.

  • Ability to understand and interpret policy and give detailed guidance to others.
  • Ability to deal with customers and challenging situations professionally.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver compliance monitoring and enforcement of reservoirs under the Reservoirs (Scotland) Act 2011 to ensure downstream safety.
  • Continue the enforcement campaign to drive up compliance and reservoir safety.
  • Provide advice, support and guidance to reservoir managers and engineers.
  • Contribute to SEPA’s transformational change to improve productivity.

  • Deliver compliance monitoring and enforcement of a third of our 693 reservoirs under the Reservoirs (Scotland) Act 2011 to ensure safety downstream of the sites
  • Continue the momentum of the enforcement campaign to drive up compliance and reservoir safety
  • Provide advice, support and guidance to reservoir managers and engineers

This is a highly important role within our Evidence & Water Resilience portfolio, which means you’ll need:

  • Relevant experience or qualification equivalent to a minimum HND / SCQF Level 8-10
  • Technical knowledge/experience of enforcement and/or environmental regulation

  • Ability to understand and interpret policy and give detailed guidance,adviceor information to others
