The role and responsibilities:

You’ll provide support to the existing small team of 9 Employer’s Agents / Project Managers in project delivery. As an Assistant you’ll learn ‘on the job’ experience by shadowing more senior members of the group and taking responsibility for day-to-day tasks - depending on experience and confidence (with suitable support/training from the wider group).

The role offers a structured development pathway, providing exposure to all stages of the project lifecycle including procurement, contract administration, stakeholder management, risk management, programme monitoring and commercial reporting. You will work closely with experienced professionals who will support your technical and professional development, enabling you to build the skills and competencies required to progress towards a Senior Employer's Agent role.

The position is particularly suited to candidates working towards professional chartership through the RICS Assessment of Professional Competence (APC). You will receive support in gaining relevant experience across the APC competency framework, including mentoring from chartered professionals, regular progress reviews, and opportunities to take on increasing levels of responsibility. As your experience grows, you will be encouraged to lead elements of project delivery, develop client-facing skills, and establish yourself as a trusted project adviser, creating a clear route for career progression within the team and wider business.

What you'll be doing:

Assisting with:

  • Taking meeting notes and minute preparation.
  • Reviewing drawings, against the contractual requirements.
  • Handover procedures including checking documentation against contractual requirements and inspections of completed units on site.
  • Reviewing contractors’ applications for payment.
  • Issuing of contractual notices during the construction period.
  • Preparation of and updating information tracker documents using Microsoft Excel.
  • Undertaking end of the defect liability inspections of properties (usually whilst occupied) and compiling a schedule of any defects identified.
  • Digital filing.

Shadowing senior members of the team, both within the office environment and also on construction sites.

Qualifications:
  • A construction related level 5 qualification OR, a minimum of 2 years’ experience in a similar position, and,
  • A driving licence with full UK entitlement, and unencumbered access to a vehicle with business cover during normal business hours
Knowledge:

Basic understanding of:

  • UK construction law.
  • UK standard construction contracts, such as JCT and NEC.
Skills:
  • Able to write reports to a good standard.
  • Good level of numeracy.
  • Proficient in the use of standard IT software including MS Word and Excel, and able to learn and use bespoke software.
  • Good communicator and people skills.
  • Personable.
  • Able to work on own initiative but accept and seek guidance when required.
