Job summary

North Yorkshire Council is seeking an Assistant EHC Caseworker to join the SEND service in Harrogate. The role involves maintaining a caseload for children and young people with SEND, delivering professional and supportive services to families, and ensuring statutory duties under the Children and Families Act (2014) are met.

You will update plans after reviews, organise meetings, and engage with education, health, and care planning processes to support individual pupils and their families.

We are looking for dedicated and passionate individuals to be Assistant EHC Caseworkers and join our growing service.You’ll play a vital role in ensuring children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities receive the right support, at the right time, in line with statutory duties and best practice.
About the service

The Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) Service (0-25) sits within the Inclusion Service, within the Children and Young People’s Service (CYPS) directorate.

The SEND service improves experience for children and young people with SEND and their families, including pathways and key points for assessment and decision making, supporting young people to achieve the national ‘Preparing for Adulthood’ outcomes.

Demonstrating acommitment to shared values and the common purpose of developing a culture of interagency working; including statutory bodies, third and private sector organisations

About the role

The Directorate has established an Integrated SEND Service (0-25) to provide an improved experience for children and young people with SEND and their families, including pathways and key points for assessment and decision making.

The role will be to maintain a caseload of identified young people and provide professional, effective and supportive service to parents of children who are undergoing assessments and implement statutory duties as well as having an understanding ofChildren and Families Act (2014) and procedures relating to the statutory review of Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCP) for children and young people with special educational needs and/or disability as specified in the Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) Code of Practice (2015).

You will update education, health and care plans following reviews as well as organise attend and contribute to meetings as well as discuss specific issues associated with the needs and provisions of individual pupils.

It is an exciting time in Children and Young Peoples Services in North Yorkshire as we plan our approach in respect of the Families First Partnership Programme and how we will be responding to the social care reforms. Work is underway to plan our approach and implementations for 2027. As a result of this, some realignment may happen with job roles in the future, we want to be transparent about this in respect of this role.
