About the Role

As an EHC Coordinator, you’ll manage and process EHC plans within a complex legal framework and tight statutory timescales. This is a highly process-driven role, requiring meticulous attention to detail and strong case management skills. You’ll review documents, implement legal requirements, and create, amend, and maintain plans that shape the support children receive. While you’ll communicate regularly with practitioners, parents, and carers, these conversations are focused on statutory processes and decision-making, rather than direct interaction with children or young people.

Responsibilities
  • Develop the highest standards of achievement and inclusion for children and young people with SEN through effective casework within the policy and budget framework of the Council, ensuring a focus on preparing for adulthood from the earliest ages.
  • Take responsibility for the preparation of information for parents, children, young people and schools, providing the right information at the appropriate time, in a simple‑to‑use way, engaging partners in understanding what our responsibility is to children, families and schools.

  • Work collaboratively with professionals across education, health and care services.
  • Ensure effective case management, integrated working practice and successful outcomes for children.
  • Participate in resource decisions, taking the lead where appropriate, for example decision‑making processes relating to whether or not assessment or plans are written, or whether specialist provision is agreed, ensuring that resource decisions are in line with local authority policies, procedures and eligibility criteria. This could include chairing or attending panel meetings.
  • Participate, as required, in a range of meetings with other professionals and parents/carers in relation to individual children with complex needs, including representing Children’s Services at annual review, chairing reviews, attending and chairing multi‑agency meetings as appropriate.

  • Input and maintain accurate and comprehensive database records as required and participate in the Local Authority’s systems for monitoring and quality assurance for children and young people known to the EHC assessment and review team.
Essential Qualifications
  • Strong understanding of the SEND Code of Practice and the Children and Families Act 2014, with the ability to interpret and apply this guidance effectively in practice.
  • Strong communication and relationship‑building skills.
  • Ability to manage deadlines and work under pressure in a busy environment.
  • Excellent written skills to support accurate case recording and contribute to quality EHC plans.
  • Experience of working with children, families, or professionals in education, health, or care settings OR transferable skills/lived experience relevant to SEND.
  • Hold a current driving licence and have access to a vehicle for work.
  • For resolutions/tribunals: Able to analyse the EHCCO process to identify where things went wrong and lead mediation and early dispute resolution work.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Previous experience with casework management.
Requirements
  • Disability confident employer – guarantee interview for any candidate disclosing a disability who meets the minimum criteria for the post.
  • Required DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service) check.
  • Driving requirement: ability to drive and/or travel around Hertfordshire, either using your own transport or a company car.
  • English fluency: ability to converse at ease with members of the public and provide advice in accurate spoken English. For those whose language is a signed language, arrangements will be made for a sign language interpreter who speaks English to the necessary standard.
