Job summary

Rendesco is recruiting an Assistant/Junior Driller to support the Lead Driller on a Comacchio rotary rig for geothermal boreholes. The role covers site preparation, equipment readiness, and maintaining safety and records across nationwide sites.

The ideal candidate will have outdoor work experience, a full UK driving license, and be able to pass safety medicals and DBS checks. Training, benefits, and development opportunities are provided.

Qualifications

• Experience of drilling operations is preferred but not essential.
• Experience working outdoors, preferably in construction environments is essential.
• CSCS card or ability to obtain one.
• Emergency First Aid at Work is preferred but not essential.
• Telehandler ticket/license is preferred but not essential.
• Full UK Driving license.
• Effective and clear communication and interpersonal skills.
• Capable of passing safety-critical medical certificate and DBS checks.

Responsibilities

• Support in the operation of drilling rigs and related equipment to drill geothermal boreholes on land-based sites.
• Operate mud cleaning/recycling equipment and implement a site-specific mud programme.
• Install closed-loop heat collectors and perform grouting per design.
• Keep the site clean, tidy, and materials stocked safely.
• Ensure equipment readiness and replace consumables as needed.
• Complete QA/QC testing on installed loops and maintain records.
• Ensure drilling activities comply with environmental, health, and safety regulations.
• Perform routine equipment inspections and basic field repairs.

Job description

Introduction

We're looking for an Assistant / Junior Driller to join our team; assisting the Lead Driller on a Comacchio rotary drilling rig, associated mud cleaning plant and ancillary site equipment. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated ability to work as part of a team, maintaining site cleanliness and preparedness, ensuring that the rig is attended to, materials stocked safely, and consumables ready as required.

Responsibilities

• Support in the operation of drilling rigs (Comacchio GEO602, 900 and 909GT) and related equipment to drill geothermal boreholes on land-based sites, to depths in excess of 200m.
• Operation of mud cleaning/recycling equipment and deployment of a site-specific mud programme to allow the efficient, clean drilling of closed-loop GSHP boreholes.
• Installation of closed-loop heat collectors in vertical and inclined boreholes, grouting and completion per design specification.
• Ensuring that the site is clean, tidy, and all materials stocked safely and efficiently.
• Delivering equipment readiness at all times, ensuring that consumables are replaced, and equipment safe and fueled for use.
• Complete QA/QC testing on installed loops and ensure good records are kept.
• Ensure drilling activities comply with environmental, health, and safety regulations.
• Perform routine equipment inspections and maintenance; troubleshoot mechanical issues and perform basic field repairs.

Location

This is a Nationwide role, and the candidate must be willing to travel for work (expenses paid). Ideal living location would be Birmingham or surrounding areas, as this is local to the Lead Driller. The successful candidate will need to pass drug and alcohol screening and be capable of passing both a safety critical medical certificate, and DBS checks.
