Skilled Careers is recruiting an Assistant Design Manager to join our London team on a range of commercial refurbishment schemes. This is a strong move for Part 3 qualified Architects looking to transition from consultancy into a contractor environment.

You will work closely with the Design Manager, project teams and supply chain to deliver complex projects from pre-construction through to completion, ensuring quality, programme and commercial objectives are met.

Qualifications

• Professional experience within an architectural practice, ideally on commercial projects.
• Understanding of the design and construction process.

• Experience with commercial refurbishment, CAT A/CAT B, fit-out, retrofit or cut-and-carve projects is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Support the Design Manager in managing the design process from pre-construction through to delivery.
• Coordinate architects, structural engineers, MEP consultants and subcontractors.
• Review and coordinate design information and identify design risks and discrepancies.
• Assist with management of design programmes and deliverables.
• Attend design team and project meetings.
• Support resolution of technical and design queries on site.
• Work with commercial, construction and procurement teams.
• Review and coordinate contractor and subcontractor design information.
• Monitor design changes and ensure they are communicated and recorded.
• Contribute to value engineering and buildability reviews.
• Help ensure the project is delivered to client requirements, programme and quality standards.

An established and growing main contractor is looking to appoint an Assistant Design Manager to join their London team, working across a range of exciting commercial cut-and-carve and refurbishment schemes.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Part 3-qualified Architect looking to make the move from consultancy into a contractor environment and develop your career within design and construction.

You will work closely with the Design Manager, project teams, consultants and supply chain to help deliver complex commercial refurbishment projects from pre-construction through to completion.

The Role

As Assistant Design Manager, you will support the management and coordination of the design process, ensuring projects are delivered to the required quality, programme and commercial objectives.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Supporting the Design Manager in managing the design process from pre-construction through to delivery.
• Coordinating architects, structural engineers, MEP consultants and specialist subcontractors.
• Reviewing and coordinating design information and identifying design risks and discrepancies.
• Assisting with the management of design programmes and deliverables.
• Attending design team and project meetings.
• Supporting the resolution of technical and design queries on site.
• Working closely with commercial, construction and procurement teams.
• Assisting with the review and coordination of contractor and subcontractor design information.
• Monitoring design changes and ensuring they are properly communicated and recorded.
• Contributing to value engineering and buildability reviews.
• Helping ensure the project is delivered in accordance with the client's requirements, programme and quality standards.

About You

The contractor is particularly interested in speaking with architects who are Part 3 qualified and are considering a move into the construction sector.

You will ideally have:

Experience of commercial refurbishment, CAT A/CAT B, fit‑out, retrofit or cut‑and‑carve projects would be highly advantageous, although candidates from broader commercial architectural backgrounds will also be considered.
