Job summary

Gleeds is seeking an Assistant Cost Manager to join the Oxford team on a hybrid basis. You will gain exposure to education, healthcare, life sciences, and government projects while pursuing APC through our mentoring and support network.

The role focuses on cost management, procurement, and contract administration, with opportunities to grow within a global consultancy over time.

Qualifications

  • RICS exempting or non-exempting degree, plus industry experience.
  • You will have enrolled for, commenced your APC.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in cost and procurement management processes to support APC preparation.
  • Develop skills in cost estimation, cost planning and procurement.
  • Support tender documentation, tender marking schemes and tender evaluation.
  • Assist with valuation of completed works and arrangements for payments.
  • Assist with preparation and settlement of final accounts and administration of contracts.
  • Prepare reports to customers and support APC development.

About This Opportunity

We have an excellent opportunity for an assistant cost manager to join our Oxford team.

Assistant Cost Manager
Property & Real Estate

Oxford | Hybrid

This is a role offering a variety of pre & post contract cost management experience and exposure to a range of projects and sectors; spanning education, healthcare, life sciences, central government and local authority clients.

A team with a history of success, doubling in size in the last 5 years in no small part due to positive leadership, collaboration and creating an inclusive culture celebrating successes of all types.

Joining the team, you'll have hands on support towards your professional development, including APC mentoring, counselling and support from experienced chartered surveyors, with the opportunity to progress on that pathway with other APC candidates in the office.

Your core responsibilities for this position will include:

Assisting in all cost and procurement management processes, with a view to successfully completing the Gleeds’ internal APC preparation programme; and self-development training in readiness for attaining Chartered status Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).

You will also assist senior colleagues with, and develop skills in:

  • Preparing order of cost estimates and option studies.
  • Producing cost plans & cost-in-use studies.
  • Tender documentation and managing the tender process. including designing tender marking schemes
  • Evaluation and reporting of tenders.
  • Valuation of completed work and arranging for payments.
  • Preparation and settlement of final accounts.
  • Administration of construction contracts.
  • Preparation of reports to customers.

You will also be responsible for working towards your APC, with the view of securing professional membership to the RICS to enable your continued professional development.

  • Experience, Knowledge And Key Skills
    • Develop knowledge and further post graduate practice experience in the following:
      • Quantification of construction works and activities.
      • Cost estimating.
      • Cost planning.
      • Value engineering.
      • Procurement.
      • Tendering
      • Post-contract cost control.
      • Administration of different forms of construction contract.
    • Demonstrate:
      • Clear and effective communication skills - both oral and written.
      • Methodical way of thinking and approach to work.
      • Good organisation, problem solving and negotiating skills.
      • Financial and numeracy management skills.
      • Sound ICT skills, with a good level of proficiency in MS Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint;
      • Be able to work as part of a team.
