Our award-winning hotel is seeking an experienced Assistant Conference & Events Sales Manager on a fixed-term basis to cover a period of maternity leave.

As Assistant C&E Sales Manager, you will support in the smooth and efficient operation of the Commercial Sales Office by managing all inbound enquiries and the coordination conferences, events, and weddings. This role is instrumental in driving revenue growth by proactively maximising sales and conversion opportunities, while ensuring a seamless, professional experience for clients from initial enquiry through to post-event delivery.

Key activities will include:

  • Deputising in the absence of the Head of Reservations, Conferences & Events, supporting the Commercial Office team while maintaining expected standards of appearance, performance and teamwork, with a strong emphasis on training and development.
  • Overseeing the management and conversion of all incoming enquiries for conferences, weddings, and events, ensuring conversion is maximised in line with forecasted targets.
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients and agents to understand their needs, drive enquiry conversion, identify upselling opportunities and encourage repeat business.
  • Collaborating with the Operations Management Team to ensure all events are meticulously planned and executed, including detailed arrangements such as table plans and dietary requirements.
  • Coordinating and attend site visits with clients and agencies, delivering a seamless and first-class experience throughout the appointment journey.
  • Monitoring guest satisfaction and feedback to identify trends and drive continuous improvement.
  • Actively manage all C&E spaces to support an effective selling strategy and work closely with the University of Birmingham Sales Team to ensure adherence to policies.
  • Support the senior commercial leadership team in delivering the five-year commercial plan.
  • Prepare the weekly C&E forecast in the absence of the Head of Department.
  • Attend and present at quarterly commercial review meetings and internal strategy meetings within areas of responsibility.
  • Assist in developing and marketing packages for conferences, events and weddings.
  • Promote and encourage repeat business through exceptional customer service and efficient enquiry handling.
  • Oversee the planning and execution of wedding and Christmas showcase events.

You will need to have a minimum of experience in a similar role, preferably in a 4* or above establishment, a proven track record of proactive sales success, with a guest focused outlook and at least 2 years’ experience of successfully supervising a commercial sales office team.

Previous experience with managing conferences, events and room reservations in a fast-paced sales environment is also required.
