Belfast City Council is seeking two temporary Assistant Community Development Officers to support the Community Services team in the City and Neighbourhood Services Department. One full-time role in East Belfast (37 hours/week) and one part-time role in West Belfast (24 hours/week) will help deliver community development plans across local groups and volunteers.

Responsibilities include supporting a development officer, recruiting and training volunteers, and coordinating community centre

Qualifications

  • At least 1 year's relevant experience organising and developing community development activities.
  • At least 1 year's relevant experience supporting and supervising volunteers.
  • Strong customer care, communication, and IT skills.
  • Ability to work well within a team and with diverse external organisations.
  • Must be eligible to work in the UK.
  • Enhanced Access NI check required.

Pay: £14.35 per hour (

Contract: Temporary Ongoing

Start Date: 24 August 2026

Hours: Two positions available - 37 hours/week (East Belfast) and 24 hours/week (West Belfast)

About the Role

We are recruiting on behalf of Belfast City Council for Assistant Community Development Officers to join the Community Services team within the City and Neighbourhood Services Department. We currently have two temporary positions available across Belfast - one full-time role based at Linenhall Street (East) and one part-time role based at Disraeli Street (West). This is a great opportunity to support community development programmes, working closely with local groups, volunteers, and statutory and voluntary agencies.
