Job summary

Anglian Water Services is seeking an Assistant Commissioning Engineer for a site-based role in Buckinghamshire. You will support commissioning across water and water recycling projects, gaining exposure to the full project lifecycle and working with seasoned engineers to build skills for progression to a Commissioning Engineer.

The position covers hands-on testing, documentation, and collaboration with operations teams, with a view to ensuring safe, reliable assets at handover.

Qualifications

  • Mechanical and Electrical (M&E) apprenticeship or equivalent technical background.
  • Electrical Engineering qualification (Level 3 or equivalent).
  • Knowledge of MCCs, PLCs, instrumentation and control systems.
  • Understanding of water or water recycling processes (desirable).
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a practical, hands-on approach.
  • Good IT skills and ability to work with technical documentation.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • A proactive attitude with a strong willingness to learn and develop.

Responsibilities

  • Support commissioning of new treatment works and systems, ensuring assets are safe, reliable and ready for operation.
  • Assist in the development of Commissioning Plans, documentation and test procedures.
  • Carry out FAT & SAT and instrumentation/telemetry system testing.
  • Support dry and wet commissioning activities and optimise treatment processes.
  • Assist with fault finding and troubleshooting automated control systems.
  • Help produce handover documentation meeting required standards before transfer to Operations.
  • Work with construction, design and operations teams to align commissioning with project delivery.
  • Support training of operational teams on new assets and systems.

What Will You Be Doing as an Assistant Commissioning Engineer?

This is a hands-on, site-based role where you'll support the delivery of commissioning activities across a range of exciting water and water recycling projects. You'll work closely with experienced Commissioning Engineers, gaining exposure to the full project lifecycle while building the skills needed to progress into a Commissioning Engineer role.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Supporting the commissioning of new treatment works and systems, ensuring assets are safe, reliable and ready for operation
  • Assisting in the development of Commissioning Plans, documentation and test procedures
  • Carrying out factory and site acceptance testing (FAT & SAT), including "Motor Control Cubicle (MCC's) and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC's), instrumentation and telemetry systems"
  • Supporting dry and wet commissioning activities and optimisation of treatment processes
  • Assisting with fault finding and troubleshooting automated control systems
  • Helping to produce handover documentation, ensuring all assets meet required standards before transfer to Operations
  • Working closely with construction, design and operational teams to integrate commissioning with project delivery
  • Supporting training of operational teams on new assets and systems

What Does It Take to Be an Assistant Commissioning Engineer?
