Transpennine Route Upgrade
The Transpennine Route Upgrade (TRU) is the largest Infrastructure project in the North delivering £10.7 billion Programme of activities that is improving the railway between York and Manchester via Leeds and Huddersfield.
Stretching across the North of England, this key 76-mile Transpennine railway serves 23 stations, crosses over and dips under 285 bridges and viaducts, passes through six miles of tunnels, and crosses over 11 level crossings.
Proposed improvements as will deliver a hard-working, reliable railway for passengers, allowing for trains with more seats, more services and faster journey times.

Brief Description
The role advertised is to provide Commercial Support to the wider Commercial teams at all levels in support of the TRU central portfolio of projects. Within this role you will be responsible for Assisting Commercial team members by caring out day to day commercial activities.
This role will be utilised to support our W2BC project which is in the early stages of construction/design. The aim of this project is to transform the TransPennine main line to bring passengers more frequent, faster, greener trains, running on a better, cleaner, and more reliable railway. While some elements of the programme are still being designed and developed, our major programme of work continues, to bring better journeys for passengers across the Pennines and beyond. The W2BC project is a hub and spoke model as part of the main programme of TRU works, with 6 spokes to work with, the project spans over 10 years and has a budget of Circa £1.5bn. While this project is in the design stage it is the perfect time for someone to start on the project and really get embedded into the team.
The main responsibilities for this role will be to assist the Commercial Manager in pre-contract activities and evaluating and agreeing the value of payments and variations for a variety of works throughout the Route.

About the role (External)
Some of the key accountabilities of this role are:
1. Assist in the measurement and evaluation of the commercial value of payments, monitoring the correct certification of works prior to authorisation in accordance with contractual obligations.
2. Assist with the reporting on all commercial aspects of allocated projects.
3. Assist in the preparation of contract specification and pre-tender documentation.
4. Assist with the general procurement/commercial management on a variety of contract categories.
We need you to have:
• Ability to work to deadlines.
• Good problem-solving skills.
• Basic level of commercial awareness
• Basic negotiation skills with ability to influence decision making.
• Computer literate including ability to utilise in-house and external software.
It would be advantageous if you have:
• Able to effectively communicate at the appropriate levels, both internally and externally
• Membership of an appropriate professional organisation, or working towards membership
• Experience of using electronic sourcing and/or procurement systems
