Job summary

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is seeking a Respiratory Physiologist for a fixed-term 12-month role based at Glasgow Royal Infirmary. The position is full-time (36 hours per week) with a Monday–Friday, 08:30–16:30 shift, rotating across GG&C sites to provide diagnostic tests.

Responsibilities include basic lung function testing (spirometry, FeNO), reversibility testing as needed, data collation for ongoing research, and participation in training and teaching days.

Qualifications

  • Completion of in-house training program (6 months) and attainment of a professional body Spirometry certificate to perform basic investigations.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a healthcare setting.
  • Knowledge of basic software packages and Microsoft Word/Excel.

Responsibilities

  • Perform basic diagnostic lung function testing (Spirometry, FeNO).
  • Perform reversibility testing where required (nebulisers/MDI).
  • Report basic lung function testing results.
  • Collate data for the service during ongoing research projects under guidance of senior staff.
  • Attend in-house training programmes as required.
  • Participate in research projects and new developments linked to the service.
  • Promote the service at clinical meetings, conferences and education days where applicable

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is one of the largest healthcare systems in the United Kingdom, employing approximately 40,000 staff across a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and roles. The Role

The Respiratory Physiology Service provides routine & specialized services to the population of Greater Glasgow & Clyde. This is a fixed term post of 12 months.

The post holder will be required to perform basic diagnostic investigations and general administrative duties for the respiratory laboratories within GGCHB.

The post holder must be able to travel to sites across GG&C to provide diagnostic tests on a rotational basis.

All other roles will be assessed for sponsorship eligibility in line with current Home Office requirements. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) can only issue a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) where these are met.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern
  • Location based in Glasgow Royal Infirmary Hospital
  • Full-time position (36 hours per week)
  • Fixed-term Contract for 12 months
  • Shift pattern for this post is Monday - Friday, 0830 1630
Key Responsibilities
  • Perform basic diagnostic lung function testing (Spirometry, FeNO).
  • Perform reversibility testing where required (via nebulisers/MDI)

  • Collate data for the service during ongoing research projects (under guidance of senior physiologists and medical staff)
  • Attend/engage in in-house training programmes as required.
  • Participate in research projects and new developments linked to the service.
  • Participate in promotion of service at clinical meetings, conferences and education days where applicable
Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft packages as previously noted (Essential)
  • A minimum of five standard grades, preferably to include Science/Maths (Essential)
  • Previous experience working within a health care setting (desirable). Full training for the scope of the role will be provided to the successful candidate. Essential NHS training (such as Moving and Handling) will also be provided
Minimum Qualifications
  • 5 Standard Grades (Preferably Science/Maths)
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Completion of in-house training program (6 months) and attainment of professional body (Association for Respiratory Technology and Physiology) certificate in Spirometry to allow performing basic investigations without direct supervision.
  • Knowledge of departmental sterilisation protocols to be attained over a 3-month induction period.
  • Basic keyboard skills
  • Knowledge of basic software packages (e.g. Microsoft Word)
