A vacancy has arisen for a motivated, enthusiastic, and reliable individual to join the Respiratory Physiology team as an Assistant Clinical Physiologist (band 3). The role is primarily based at our specialist sleep centre at Charing Cross Hospital, providing comprehensive diagnostic testing for various sleep disorders. There is potential for rotation into the Lung Function departments across different Trust sites. You will join a multidisciplinary team including consultants, clinical scientists, physiologists, and administrators.

You will be responsible for high-quality data acquisition and observation recording during overnight sleep studies, preparing and downloading home testing equipment, and supplying replacement parts for sleep therapeutic devices. The role involves working night shifts one week in four on a rotational basis. In lung function, you will perform basic diagnostic tests and support physiologist staff with more complex testing.

This is a specialist role; direct experience is not required as full training will be provided, but some experience with patients is advantageous. Excellent customer service skills, empathy, and the ability to work under pressure are essential.

Main duties of the job
  1. Interact closely with medical, scientific, and nursing staff to provide a high-quality Sleep Service dedicated to patient care.
  2. After initial training, independently hook up and monitor patients during routine and complex sleep studies, troubleshooting equipment issues according to protocols.
  3. Organize your workload to ensure effective use of time.
  4. Assist in the orientation of new staff and students.
  5. Communicate effectively at all times and maintain a harmonious working environment.
  6. Take joint responsibility for stock control.
  7. Assist patients with questionnaires such as the Epworth Sleepiness Scale, reading and writing for them or rephrasing terms to aid understanding if needed.
