Job summary

Leeds City Council is seeking an Assistant Chargehand / Driver to join a multi-skilled environmental services team. You will contribute to litter removal, fly-tip clearance, gardening tasks and operating fleet vehicles to keep neighbourhoods clean and safe.

The role requires a C1 licence (up to 7.5t), ability to work outdoors in all weather, and strong teamwork. This is a full-time permanent post with 37 hours per week and a competitive salary (£26,847–£27,274).

Qualifications

• Possession of a valid C1 category licence (up to 7.5 tonnes).
• Able to work as part of a team outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Able to supervise a small team of operational staff as required.
• Experience using basic hand tools safely and efficiently.

Responsibilities

• Carry out a range of physical tasks to improve neighbourhood cleanliness and appearance.
• Drive and operate fleet vehicles safely (e.g., path sweepers).
• Supervise onsite operational staff as required by the Charge-hand/Team Leader.
• Engage with residents and businesses to promote responsible waste disposal.
• Support seasonal duties such as gritting and snow/ice removal.
