The University of Chester Chaplaincy team is seeking an enthusiastic Assistant Chaplain to join us in creating an inclusive community for students. Based at Exton Park, the role involves delivering creative activities, events and pastoral support, with travel across sites as needed.

It is a part-time, term-time post (17 hours/week over 30 weeks) with hours to be agreed on appointment. We are looking for someone with extensive pastoral experience and a deep understanding of faith communities,

Job description

The Chaplaincy team at the University of Chester are seeking an enthusiastic and creative Assistant Chaplain to join our team to help create an inclusive, welcoming community for students across the University. Based in the Community Hub at Exton Park, you will play a key role in enhancing the student experience through the delivery of creative activities, events, and pastoral support. This is a part time, term time only post working 17 hours per week over 30 weeks per year. Hours to be agreed upon appointment. The role is based at Exton Park main site, with some travel across sites as needed.

We are looking for a person with extensive experience in supporting people pastorally and in building a sense of community & belonging. It is essential that the person has a very good understanding of faith communities and of religion & belief generally. The role requires excellent communication and organisational skills, an ability to work flexibly according to the needs of the day, excellent teamwork, and a commitment to fostering inclusive communities of belonging.

The successful candidate will provide a visible Chaplaincy presence; offering a listening ear and general pastoral care, while signposting students to appropriate support services when needed. You will work closely with our Chaplains to plan and deliver engaging events, coordinate student volunteers, and maintain resources.
