Role: Assistant Buyer (12-month fixed-term contract)

Sheffield Forgemasters is an iconic steel production and engineering company, a global leader in designing, manufacturing, and delivering world-class steel forgings and castings.

It is a great time to join Forgemasters, as the business is undergoing growth and modernisation following its acquisition by the UK Ministry of Defence in 2021. This acquisition secures our role as a key supplier to UK defence programmes. Over the next 10 years, our plant and equipment will be modernised, creating new opportunities for the business and our colleagues.

Based at our 64-acre site in Sheffield, we are seeking an Assistant Buyer for a 12-month fixed-term contract to cover maternity leave. The role involves supporting the procurement function to meet company objectives, deliver value for money, and enhance departmental efficiency and effectiveness.

Role Responsibilities

• Analyze procurement spend.
• Assist with benchmarking exercises and scope RFQs in response to spend analysis.
• Support supplier negotiations and the agreement of terms and conditions.
• Handle day-to-day contractor requirements.
• Collaborate with the Procurement Team and wider business to promote new opportunities, innovation, and continuous improvement.

About You

The ideal candidate will have:

• Experience in purchasing or procurement roles.
• Proficiency with MS Office, especially Excel.
• Strong numerical and analytical skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Outstanding organizational skills, with the ability to meet deadlines and maintain accuracy and attention to detail.
• Ability to prioritize workload effectively.

Working Hours

37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with flexible start and finish times between 06:15 - 09:30 and 14:30 – 18:00.
