The Role

Reporting to the Commercial Manager, the Assistant Buyer supports the day-to-day monitoring of procurement costs, compliance with group purchasing arrangements, collection of rebates, and the setting and monitoring of materials budgets to deliver the business unit output efficiently and cost-effectively.

Principal Accountabilities

• Assist with procurement of all directly purchased materials and hired plant to deliver new homes, including taking off and scheduling materials from working drawings.
• Place orders for bulk materials and handle site requisitions.
• Liaise with suppliers to ensure best value.
• Manage workload on a daily/weekly basis.
• Assist in preparing and updating materials budgets for developments.
• Help produce KPI reports on site damage, plant use, and waste.
• Ensure compliance with Bellway Group Procedures.

Experience and Qualifications

• Previous experience in a Buying role with knowledge of take-offs, schedules, and budgets.
• Experience in housebuilding or large construction preferred but open to all construction sectors.
• Current CSCS card or equivalent.
• GCSE English and Mathematics grade A-C/4+ or equivalent.
• Relevant HNC/Degree education preferred but not essential with suitable experience.

Skills and Aptitude

• Strong communication and listening skills.
• Excellent attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and in a team.
• Proficiency in MS Word and Excel, adaptable to new systems.
• Ability to meet deadlines under pressure.

Working Conditions
