Job Description

We are looking for an Assistant Accountant to join our team for a 12-month FTC. You will play an important role within the Group Transport Finance Team focusing on the reconciliation of our backhauls to our customers' central summaries. In this proactive role, you will support the operational & financial running of the business, ensuring management accounts processes are followed. You will challenge current processes and ways of working, championing continuous improvement across the wider team.

Overview

The role is based at our Sainsbury's distribution centre in Leeds. After initial training, the role will be hybrid, with 3 days in the office and 2 days remote.

Key Responsibilities

• Weekly reconciliations of Wincanton Backhaul to Sainsbury’s central summaries, identifying anomalies in kilometres/hours reported to ensure accuracy.
• Processing weekly internal cross charges between Wincanton contracts.
• Be the single point of contact for BAU Finance colleagues for raising issues and providing reporting solutions.
• Collaborate with Wincanton Invoicing team to resolve queries timely.
• Support reduction of bad debt / overdue customer accounts.
• Assist in annual rate reviews to Backhaul lanes to ensure ongoing profitability.
• Communicate effectively with stakeholders about risks and opportunities within the P&L.
• Resolve & escalate site finance and operations queries on the backhaul P&L.
• Provide accurate reporting to demonstrate Backhaul profitability to Wincanton & the customer.

Qualifications and Skills

• Experience in a similar role.
• Excellent PC skills, especially Excel.
• Strong analytical skills and ability to handle large data sets.
• Self-motivated with good time management and problem-solving skills.
• Drive and commitment to continuous improvement.
• Willingness to travel as required.
