Job summary

Mercury is seeking an Assistant Accountant to join a small, experienced finance team in a hands-on, commercially focused role that blends day-to-day accounting with management accounting exposure.

Ideal candidates are part-qualified (AAT/CIMA/ACCA) with 2–3+ years' experience in finance, encompassing both sales and purchase ledger activity, accruals, prepayments, and month-end processes. You will support monthly close and collaborate across the business.

Qualifications

• Part-qualified finance professional with 2–3+ years in a finance role, handling sales and purchase ledgers.
• Solid understanding of accruals, prepayments, and double-entry principles.
• Experience with reconciliations and month-end processes; strong Excel skills (pivot tables, SUMIFS, lookups) required.

Responsibilities

• Manage the sales ledger and review contract changes for accurate monthly invoicing.
• Issue customer statements and resolve billing queries.
• Raise credits and support customer account resolution.
• Support credit control and chase overdue invoices.
• Complete daily bank reconciliations and postings.
• Prepare and upload month-end journals including accruals and prepayments.
• Assist with management accounts for multinational entities.
• Complete balance sheet reconciliations.
• Collaborate with teams to ensure accurate accounts view.
• Support improvements to finance processes, systems and reporting.
• Liaise with auditors and external parties as required.
