Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You'll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work
We are offering an accounts apprentice role within our team. You will need to be prepared to train and learn in a busy, professional office environment.

Key responsibilities:

  1. Assist in the preparation of monthly management accounts and reports
  2. Conduct regular ledger reviews and reconciliations
  3. Assist in ensuring G&H finance policies and controls are fully implemented
  4. Assist in ensuring standard costs are properly maintained and analysed, and corrective actions are proposed for variances identified.
  5. Assist with audits to provide requested information and explanations
  6. Support the finance team with ad-hoc tasks
  7. Contribute to continuous improvement within the finance department

Course contents

  1. Assist with the investigation and response to financial information queries.
  2. Record and analyse financial data using the organisation's standard tools and processes.
  3. Apply double entry bookkeeping and accounting standards to process financial documents, generate financial statements and report financial information to users of accounts.
  4. Assist with production of accurate financial information for the preparation of accounts.
  5. Reconcile financial data, such as, preparation of reconciliations or review of reconciliations.
  6. Investigate, resolve or escalate transactional queries and errors within their remit as appropriate.
  7. Develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders.
  8. Communicate financial information in a way that non-finance stakeholders can interpret and understand.
  9. Utilise digital skills to present key financial information using finance and accounting software and applications.
  10. Use software packages to assist with basic accounting tasks in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.
  11. Communicate using varying approaches and different media methods with an appreciation of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.

Your training plan
As well as on the job training you will attend Richard Huish College for one day per week and work towards the following:

  1. Assistant Accountant Level 3 Standard
  2. Apprenticeship Diploma
  3. Functional Skills in maths and English (if applicable)

After this apprenticeship
This apprenticeship will be offered on a fixed term basis for the duration of the course. Upon successful completion of the AAT Level 3, you will then progress to AAT Level 4 and will then have the opportunity to study for the ACCA qualification. As you progress through your career, you will take on more responsibility, eventually building up to looking after a portfolio of your own clients.
