Job summary

Artemis Human Capital supports a well-established engineering business based in Toomebridge, seeking an Assistant Accountant on a fixed-term maternity cover of approximately 12 months. You will join the finance team and work across transactional finance, including accounts payable, bank reconciliations, expenses and month-end activities.

We are looking for a proactive finance professional with experience in accounts payable, bank reconciliations, and good Excel skills.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in an Accounts Assistant, Assistant Accountant or similar finance role
• Experience across accounts payable, bank reconciliations and/or job costing
• Strong understanding of accounting principles and practices
• Excellent attention to detail with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work independently within a wider finance team

Responsibilities

• Complete weekly and monthly bank reconciliations across accounts payable, payroll and logistics transactions
• Process supplier invoices and expenses accurately and within required timescales
• Review outstanding and unapproved invoices and follow up with relevant stakeholders
• Monitor and close outstanding Purchase Orders
• Maintain accurate accounts payable balances and investigate discrepancies
• Prepare accounts payable ledgers, open PO reports and unapproved invoice reports
• Support cash-flow management through accurate and timely financial information
• Assist with accounts receivable activities and month-end processes
• Support payroll liabilities and journal preparation
• Reconcile supplier invoices relating to accommodation, vehicles and plant against internal records
• Assist with maintaining accurate financial records and improving finance processes and reporting

Job description

We are partnering with a well-established engineering business based in Toomebridge, who are seeking to appoint an Assistant Accountant to join their finance team on a fixed-term basis. This is an excellent opportunity to join a busy finance function, providing maternity cover for an anticipated period of 12 months.

This role offers a varied workload across accounts payable, bank reconciliations, expenses, cash-flow support and month-end activities, while working closely with the wider finance and operational teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Complete weekly and monthly bank reconciliations across accounts payable, payroll and logistics transactions
• Process supplier invoices and expenses accurately and within required timescales

Who We’re Looking For

• Previous experience in an Accounts Assistant, Assistant Accountant or similar finance role
• Experience across accounts payable, bank reconciliations and/or job costing
• Strong understanding of accounting principles and practices
• Good working knowledge of accounting software and strong Excel skills
• AAT, Accounting/Finance degree or equivalent experience would be advantageous
• Excellent attention to detail with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a wider finance team
