Description: Assistant Accountant Job - Based in Nottingham for 9 month fixed-term Contract

Assistant Accountant (9-Month Maternity Cover)
Location: Nottingham
Salary: From £30,000 per annum
Hours: Full-time, 35 hours per week (typically 9am-5pm, 1-hour lunch)
Hybrid Working: Up to 2 days WFH once performance is established
Contract: Fixed-term (9 months)

About the Role:
Hays is recruiting on behalf of a dynamic, multi-site business based in Nottingham for a 9-month maternity cover position. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a high-performing finance team.
As Assistant Accountant, you'll support the Finance Management team in producing monthly management accounts and delivering key financial insights across the business.

Key Responsibilities:

Manage financials for two subsidiaries within the group
Perform balance sheet reconciliations (accruals, bank accounts, client accounts)
Review and submit VAT returns
Complete month-end duties for subsidiaries and the wider group
Handle departmental accounting
Conduct nominal and departmental costing reviews
Assist with external audit preparation
Support forecasting and data analysis
Contribute to ad hoc finance projects

What We're Looking For:

AAT qualification preferred (or equivalent experience)
Strong attention to detail and excellent organisational skills
Proactive approach with the ability to identify and resolve issues
Team player with strong communication skills
Proficiency in finance systems, including Sage 50, Xero, and Excel
